A lifetime passion for arts education...
Grace first developed her classroom skills at First Stage Theater Academy's summer and after-school programs. After years of receiving a theater education from First Stage, she spent many summers there teaching classes such as Voice and Movement, Acting Theory, Character Development, and Shakespeare. During college summers, she acted as Assistant Director for First Stage's Company Class, a pre-college prep program for high school actors. First Stage's mission of “life skills through stage skills" has become Grace's personal mantra on and off the stage.
Grace started her in-school education career with the the Milwaukee Repertory Theater's education and outreach programs in 2013. She also spent after-school hours coaching forensics at three different schools, grades 6-12. Since 2016, Grace has worked at Skylight Music Theatre as their Resident Teaching Artist, taught a Shakespeare residency at Bradley Tech High School through Arts@Large, and found contracted work through Mini-Courses Saturday Academy, a UWM campus-based extra-curricular program where she can create her own lesson plans for young people and explore subjects of her choice in an in-depth, college atmosphere.
In the summer of 2015, Grace started her adventure with Next Act Theatre's Next Actors, a summer program for teenagers that allows the students to devise their own project and tour it to Milwaukee communities such as Boys and Girls Clubs, senior centers, and Community Learning Centers. After directing a few of their summer shows, Grace became Next Act's Education Manager where she used her skills in teaching, curriculum, community-building, and all of her connections to excellent Milwaukee Public School teachers to build an education program that remains free for high school students. Their February 2018 show Blood at the Root (in which Grace performed) toured to local MPS schools and served even more at their student matinees. The experience was unforgettable and she hopes for many more!
