A lifetime passion for arts education...
It was college when Grace realized that her acting skills could be used for practical applications off the stage in a variety of ways: Summer theater training programs offered by theater companies throughout Milwaukee, teaching theater skills in various extra-curricular workshops and residencies, and coaching forensics for high school students.
Grace first developed her classroom skills at First Stage Theatre Academy's summer and after-school programs. There, she has taught Voice and Movement, Acting Theory, and Shakespeare, as well as assisted directors in developing Shakespeare plays with First Stage's Company Class, a pre-college prep program for high school actors. She is an active member of First Stage's Professional Learning Committee, or PLC. First Stage's mission of “life skills through stage skills" has become Grace's personal mantra on and off the stage.
Branching out from her home at First Stage, Grace started work with the Milwaukee Repertory Theater's education and outreach programs in 2015. These integrated workshops facilitate theater appreciation and bring students around Milwaukee to experience live performances. Grace also focused her after-school attention to the Forensics teams at both Divine Savior Holy Angels High School (where she became the head Forensics Coach) and Marquette University High School (where she is still an assistant coach.) Photos of the hard-working, talented teams can be found below in the gallery. As recent as August of 2016, Grace found a full-time seasonal position at Skylight Music Theatre as their Resident Teaching Artist, and put her multiple side projects on hold to dedicate her time to delivering Skylight residencies to Milwaukee Public Schools. This job sparked a high interest for in-school MPS arts education, and Grace is ready to take what she learned at Skylight into new career choices.
In the summer of 2016, Grace started her adventure with Next Act Theater's Next Actors, a summer program for teenagers that allows the students to devise their own project and tour it to under-served Milwaukee communities. This summer she'll be facilitating the same program under entirely new circumstances with a new (and bigger) crew!
